Liverpool reporter Paul Gorst has played down some of the speculation that is heavily linking the Reds with a move for Saul Niguez this summer, with a lot of the stories emanating from Spain at the moment.

The Reds are being linked with a lot of midfielders this summer, that is safe to say, but it is also pretty easy to see that the club is not currently close to bringing in a new player.

Saul is one man that has been heavily linked by some quarters of the press, particularly over in Spain, and Gorst has suggested the Reds aren’t as close as is perhaps being claimed, with him saying via the Liverpool Echo:

“All the links appear to be coming from Spain at the moment. That’s not to say they are inaccurate, of course, but some of them are conflicting and Manchester United are being mentioned far more progressively than Liverpool at the moment in the Spanish press.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Saul is a good player but as things stand the Reds do not seem to be anything like close to getting a deal done for him.

The speculation is there and there could be something in it but the story seems to go to that stage and stop right now.
