According to a report from El Larguero, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was unhappy with Xavi after their match against Rayo Vallecano.

Despite the team’s impressive 3-0 victory, Laporta was angered by Xavi’s comments suggesting that they should be content with finishing the season in second place, as it guaranteed their participation in the Super Cup.

Laporta sarcastically replied, “Let’s see if now we’re going to celebrate being second in the League.”

Barcelona are nearing the end of a season that will end with a significant decision for the board: deciding who will coach the team for the final part of his term, which ends in 2026.

From Xavi’s side, they seem reluctant to leave. “We will not announce our resignation twice in a season,” says those from his camp.

What’s going on at Barcelona?

Until recently, it seemed certain that Xavi would continue as coach next season. This was confirmed on April 25 during a large event by Laporta, sports vice president Rafa Yuste, and sports director Deco, in front of the sports commission and the rest of the board.

However, some recent remarks by Xavi, which made Laporta doubt the team’s ability to compete against a very strong Real Madrid next season, have put Xavi’s position at risk.

Despite some influential voices advising Laporta to reconsider due to the potential impact on the club’s image and finances, Laporta is still leaning towards dismissing Xavi next week.

This is mostly because firing Xavi and his staff is estimated to cost the club around €20 million.

Right now, everything hinges on an upcoming meeting between the president, who is currently ill, and the coach.

This meeting is expected to take place next week, where Laporta will likely inform Xavi that he no longer plans to keep him as coach.

Given that both are emotional individuals who speak their minds, it is uncertain whether this meeting will result in a final split or lead to reconciliation.
