Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella missed the Palace game due to a throat problem, not any injury

As per Di Marzio journalist Nathan Gissing (h/t Football.London), Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella missed the game against Crystal Palace on the weekend due to a throat problem, and not any injury issue.

The Spanish defender had to be admitted to the hospital to deal with that problem. Although there seems to be nothing serious about it. He could be back in training or in the squad next week. However, there is no fixed date for the return.

The Blues won the game 2-1 after coming back from a goal down. Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Conor Gallagher made the turnaround happen.

Cucurella, who started Graham Potter’s first game in charge against RB Salzburg as a left-sided centre-back in a back three, has been a welcome addition to the Chelsea squad following his summer arrival from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Blues have eight more games coming up in October and there is no let-up in November’s schedule as well before the World Cup. So, they would like as many players fit as possible so that the manager has the option to rotate his squad and manage the workload.

In other news, N’Golo Kante, who was out for more than a month after suffering a hamstring injury against Tottenham Hotspur, has been back in training for a few days now. The Frenchman could be back into the reckoning soon.

Chelsea face AC Milan next at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in the Champions League. It is probably a must-win game for the Blues having only collected one point from their opening two group games, leaving them at the bottom of their group table.

After that, Wolverhampton Wanderers will visit the capital on the weekend for the league game. Potter will hope that Cucurella and Kante are back for that game, if not the Milan one.
