The 2024 edition of the Globe Soccer Awards, which is being hosted at the Palm, in Dubai, has seen witnessed many prominent football figures, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Vinicius Junior.

A host of Barcelona players, too, are competing in the event, with Lamine Yamal being the star representative, with the youngster winning the Emerging Player of the Year award.

However, one major absentee from Barcelona in the Globe Soccer event has been the club president, Joan Laporta.

Laporta was not seen anywhere near the event, even though he did travel to Dubai.

Why Laporta did not attend Globe Soccer gala

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered more perspective on Laporta’s absence from the Globe Soccer event.

Although Laporta did travel to Dubai, he did not attend the event after learning that the court had refused to grant precautionary measures for Dani Olmo’s registration.

This prompted Laporta to cancel his visit to the Globe Soccer gala and instead work from his hotel, trying to find a solution for Olmo’s registration, especially with the deadline coming close.

Barcelona have until December 31 to register Olmo. The club were banking on the court’s verdict of a precautionary measure. But now that the court has rejected it, the club must now seek other options.

Barcelona have been working on a deal to sell VIP ticketing at Camp Nou, which could bring significant inflow.

Laporta, therefore, is in constant contact with the Barcelona board, trying to work out an agreement that may help the club register Olmo and Pau Torres at the last minute.

In the meantime, the club president had decided to send some of his trusted men to the Globe Soccer gala, as representatives of Barcelona.
