Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek are West Ham’s joint top scorers this season. They have scored three goals each.

If West Ham are to avoid the dreaded drop to the Championship and push up the Premier League table, then they have to start scoring more goals.

West Ham eye Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

It seems that the Hammers think that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the answer to their problems upfront.

According to The Sun, West Ham are interested in signing Calvert-Lewin from Premier League rivals Everton in the January transfer window.

The report in the British tabloid has claimed that the Toffees could sell the striker for £20 million. Arsenal, AC Milan and Newcastle United are also keen on Calvert-Lewin, who was described as “a very good player” by Everton manager Sean Dyche in The Telegraph this month.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s record is not great

Calvert-Lewin is a good striker and has done well in the Premier League, but he is not among the ‘elite’ players. He has scored only 56 goals in 227 appearances in the English top flight so far in his career.

There have been injury problems for the 27-year-old as well over the years, and West Ham have to think very carefully before paying £20 million for him in the middle of the season.

The Englishman has scored only two goals in 13 Premier League starts this season. In 26 league starts in 2023-24, he found the back of the net seven times.

It was only in 2019-20 and 2020-21 that Calvert-Lewin reached double figures for goals in the Premier League.
