Rúben Amorim, still fresh in the Manchester United dugout, already faces a daunting challenge that has plagued his predecessors: a blunt attack. With just 37 goals in 29 Premier League matches, United’s frontline has misfired more than most. For context, Liverpool have scored nearly twice as many, while even struggling Ipswich are only nine behind.
The solution? A powerful No.9 who can lead from the front and deliver goals in clutch moments. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, that may come in the imposing form of Benjamin Sesko, the 6ft 5in Slovenian striker branded “The Beast” by those who’ve watched him dominate in the Bundesliga.
“Arsenal is heavily linked with Benjamin Sesko. Also, from our view, at Leipzig, they know it’s very realistic that he’s going to leave the club in the summer,” wrote Plettenberg in The Daily Briefing.
RB Leipzig, who have quietly become masters of buying low and selling high, are reportedly braced for Sesko’s departure – and the €70m (£58.9m) figure being talked about feels relatively modest given the striker’s age, physicality, and upside.
With 86 goals already to his name across club and international football, Sesko’s trajectory is sharp. His playing style is raw yet refined: quick feet for a tall man, aerial dominance, and a striker’s instinct that belies his 20 years.
Manchester United face stiff competition, however. Arsenal, looking for a more traditional striker to supplement their fluid front line, are keen. Newcastle, buoyed by their financial muscle, also lurk in the shadows. But United have a wildcard: Amorim’s new tactical vision.
The 3-4-2-1 system he favours needs a physical and mobile spearhead. Sesko ticks every box – and his athleticism could help revitalise the misfiring attack.
Sesko isn’t the only name on the list. Manchester United’s recruitment team, led by Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell, are also watching Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyökeres, and Hugo Ekitike.

Each comes with promise, but also caveats. Osimhen, the most explosive of the quartet, has a £62.3m release clause and Napoli may still play hardball. Gyökeres, who has lit up Liga Portugal with Sporting, is available for a similar fee – though Premier League adaptation remains a question mark.
In that sense, Sesko presents perhaps the best balance of potential and productivity.
“They would talk with €70m (£58.9m) on the table,” noted Plettenberg. That number, in today’s market, feels like a bargain.
Amorim’s style demands verticality and pace – and a forward who can hold the ball, drag centre-backs out of position, and bully defences when needed. If the Portuguese manager is to make Old Trafford believe again, it’ll be with players like Sesko who blend youth, power, and presence.
This isn’t just a rumour mill spin; it’s a marker laid down. United’s ambitions rest not on sentiment or fading stars but on hungry talents who can be moulded into modern greats.
Sesko might not be the finished article yet. But if United are bold enough to act early and outmanoeuvre their rivals, they could be laying the cornerstone of a new attacking identity. One built on power, presence – and a whole lot of potential.
From a Manchester United fan’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of transfer ambition they’ve wanted to see for years. No more chasing washed-up names for brand appeal. Sesko is the future – tall, strong, aggressive and still young enough to grow into an elite striker.
The €70m price tag isn’t scary when you consider the prices clubs have shelled out for far less proven strikers in recent years. The fact that clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle are also circling just adds urgency. This isn’t the time for dithering or drawn-out negotiations. If Amorim is serious about reshaping his side, Sesko has to be the first move.
United have missed that focal point in attack ever since Zlatan’s first season. Martial’s flashes faded, Højlund is still raw. Sesko could be the final piece to a new-look attack that’s fast, fluid and fearsome.
