Report: Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Scott Parker continues to grow

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are growing more and more interested in acquiring the services of Fulham manager Scott Parker before next summer. So much so that, the club has made behind-the-scenes to assess the Englishman’s interest in taking the managerial job.

Parker, a former Tottenham midfielder, spent two years at the club between 2011 and 2013 before moving to Fulham where he eventually retired in 2017. Immediately after his retirement, the 40-year-old returned to Tottenham, joining up as the youth team coach and went on to manage 25 games for our Under-18 side.

Parker, after a year, returned to Fulham, joining as the assistant manager where he served under Slavisa Jokanovic as well Claudio Ranieri, before taking over the managerial hotseat following the Italian’s sacking in February 2019. While he couldn’t stop the Cottagers from relegation, Parker led them back to the Premier League in a single attempt.

Even though they are primed for the drop yet again, has managed to win a lot of admirers for his work and approach to management at Craven Cottage. And as per the report, one of those admirers is Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

It is said that the Tottenham chief “thinks the world of” the 40-year-old and is appealed by the fact that he played at the highest level for so many years and was able to achieve promotion with Fulham in his first full-season. To that end, Spurs are said to have put out feelers to learn whether Parker would consider taking the manager’s job at the club.

Parker is still very much in the nascent stages of his managerial career. And, while he has garnered admiration and deservedly so for some of the work he has done at Fulham, it must not be forgotten that they are still facing relegation. Even though the idea of him taking over as the manager has some sense of romanticism to it, Levy & co. must look for a better option, of which there are plenty in the market as things stand.
