Revealed: The compensation fee to be paid by Tottenham Hotspur for Jose Mourinho after sacking him

A report by The Independent mentions that Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Jose Mourinho today but the decision to relieve him of his duties came on Friday after his team’s 2-2 draw against Everton.

Mourinho’s team plummeted to 7th place in the table after that draw against the Toffees. The stellar start to the season could not be sustained and on top of that, Spurs were eliminated by Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Europa League.

Amid this, sections of fans started to question the Portuguese’s tactics at the club. And now, Spurs have announced that Mourinho will leave the club with immediate effect, with Ryan Mason and Chris Powell taking charge of the club on a temporary basis.

At 17 months, this was his shortest stint as a manager at any club since he started managing FC Porto in the early 2000s. But this decision has not come cheap for Tottenham.

Payday for Mourinho

The report mentions that Tottenham will have to pay a severance package in the region of £15million to Jose Mourinho. That is a big cost just to get rid of a manager.

And things must have really reached a boiling point for the club to fire him just a few days before the club’s Carabao Cup final next weekend. Mourinho is a serial winner and could have guided Tottenham to their first trophy in 13 years.

But it seems that Daniel Levy wants to take a shot at the League Cup final without him. And speaking after the sacking, Levy said of Mourinho:
