Marc Casado’s journey at Barcelona took a significant turn when Hansi Flick, the current manager of the club, decided to dig deeper into the talent pool of Barça Atletic upon his arrival.
According to SPORT, Flick sought guidance from former Barça Atletic coach Rafa Marquez regarding players who not only had the potential to excel at the top level but also possessed leadership qualities that could strengthen the first-team squad.
When Flick arrived at Barcelona, he was handed a challenging task. With the club facing ongoing financial struggles, the scope for new signings was highly restricted.
Ultimately, he had to turn to the youth system to address the gaps in his team. Recognising the importance of utilising homegrown talent, he and his assistant, Marcus Sorg, spent countless hours reviewing match footage of reserve players.
However, it was a conversation with Marquez during pre-season preparations that became a pivotal moment in identifying the right talent for promotion.

Flick specifically inquired about players from Barça Atletic who could step up to the first team and make an immediate impact. Marquez did not hesitate in his response—he pointed to Marc Casado, the reserve team’s former captain, as the standout choice.
Marquez was confident in Casado’s leadership qualities, ability to influence the dressing room, and readiness to thrive under pressure at the elite level.
Despite being underutilised during Xavi’s tenure, Casado, who is now considered Sergio Busquets’ replacement, was given the opportunity to shine under Flick.
Flick trusted Marquez’s recommendation, and Casado proved his worth by becoming a regular in the starting XI.
His promotion to the first team was not just a testament to his talent but also to his unwavering determination and ability to handle responsibility.
By June 2024, Casado’s hard work paid off when he secured a contract extension until 2028. His rise to prominence under Flick highlighted his role as a natural leader who could adapt to the demands of top-tier football.
Casado’s journey serves as an inspiring example of how youth development and trust in homegrown talent can shape Barcelona’s future amidst financial challenges.
