Tottenham backed out of Leandro Trossard deal due to the ‘lack of resale value’

According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur backed out of the deal for then Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard as they felt that the price demanded by the Seagulls was very high for the 28-year-old.

Trossard eventually signed for Arsenal with the Gunners willing to pay the £ 25 million fee that Brighton were asking for him. The Belgian has already made a stunning start to life at the Emirates, showcasing his quality.

Tottenham’s thinking behind the deal was that Trossard at 28 might not have a huge resale value in the future and that it did not make sense to spend so much for a player who’d be here only as a backup forward.

Ultimately, it worked out well for the Lilywhites who managed to snap up Arnaut Danjuma, a much younger player on a low-risk loan deal. He might not be at the levels of Trossard yet but he has the quality.

The Belgian on the other hand managed to secure a move to arguably the favourites to win the Premier League this season. He has joined a well-oiled machine but has fit in like he has always been destined to play there.

Trossard is a very talented player. This has been a breakthrough campaign of sorts for him with Brighton, not a term that you would usually associate with a 28-year-old but such has been the impact.

Irrespective of how things ended with the Seagulls, no one can deny the fact that Trossard was their best player until that point. He started off well under Graham Potter but he took his game to a whole new level under Roberto de Zerbi.

Even for Brighton, the loss of Trossard has not hurt them at all. His exit paved way for the entry of the Japanese sensation, Kaoru Mitoma and the winger has absolutely exploded onto the scene.

Ultimately, this has been a transfer saga that has benefitted every single party involved – Arsenal, Brighton, Tottenham and Trossard himself. One of those rare deals which has benefitted all parties involved – let’s see how it goes.
