New boy Edinson Cavani is 33 and a short-term option. However, he is amongst the best-paid players at the club earning close to £200,000 per week.

United have had to compete against potential offers from China and the Middle East. This has forced them to pay a king’s ransom to convince the 33-year-old to make the move to Old Trafford.

Coming to impactful players, Bruno Fernandes is the club’s seventh highest-paid player. the Portuguese star has been instrumental since joining United in January. He earns £180,000 per week.

Skipper Harry Maguire is ahead of Fernandes with a £190,000-a-week wage packet. Troublingly though, players such as Juan Mata and Luke Shaw are earning £160,000 and £150,000 per week respectively.

Mata is, at this point in time, a fringe player. With the signing of Telles, Shaw may soon join the Spaniard on the bench. Having to pay such a high wage to two players who are unessential sparks of poor management.

Interestingly, Telles himself is set to earn £75,000-per-week, half of what Shaw earns.
