It is quickly turning into the will-he-won’t-he transfer story of the summer, and a new report has shed further light on Harry Kane’s chances of leaving Tottenham Hotspur to join Manchester City this summer.

On Thursday evening, a report in The Sun claimed Kane is poised to move to the Premier League champions after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy accepted a British transfer record breaking £160m offer for the England captain.

But on Saturday, The Athletic report that no such agreement has been reached, and Spurs expect Kane to still be their player when the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.

City, meanwhile, are reported to have flatly denied they are willing to pay anything like £160m for the 28-year-old.

A player-plus-cash offer worth around £100m from City is already understood to have been rejected by Spurs, and The Athletic suggest Levy could be tempted by an offer closer to £150m.

But Kane’s age could deter City from breaking the bank, and Tottenham’s new managing director of football Fabio Paratici is said to be confident about the club’s chances of keeping hold of their star man.

And considering Kane still has three years left to run on his Spurs contract, his current club are in a very strong bargaining position.

City reportedly want to sign him, Kane reportedly wants to leave, but unless someone makes Levy an offer he can’t refuse, this saga looks unlikely to be ending anytime soon.
