Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Gabriel Jesus contemplating his future at Manchester City

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Gabriel Jesus is currently considering his future options at Manchester City past this summer. He is not a guaranteed starter at Etihad Stadium, which has prompted him to reach this decision.

Antonio Conte wants to bolster his squad with the added weight of the Champions League from the next season onwards. Tottenham are set to join the transfer race to sign Jesus after identifying him as a target for the summer transfer window. The forward is aware of the interest, which could pave the way for a potential move.

Spurs will face stern competition from Arsenal, who have already held talks with the Brazilian attacker’s agent Marcelo Pettinati. The former would be concerned by the fact that Jesus is intrigued by the “project” being built by Mikel Arteta. Furthermore, Pettinati mentioned that six other clubs are interested in signing the Man City striker as well.

Spurs to sign Jesus?

If the 25-year-old centre-forward had struggled to get game time under Pep Guardiola so far, it is reasonable to think that things would get worse following Erling Haaland’s arrival. Haaland is set to join the Citizens this summer, which could potentially push things in our favour.

Since Jesus is open to leaving the Manchester club, one could argue that perhaps Haaland’s arrival could force him to take that decision after this season. The fans would hope to see that happen as only then would Conte’s side have the chance to prise the South American away before others.

The Gunners’ involvement does cause issues for us as Arteta’s previous affiliation with Jesus is something that must be considered. With the latter also willing to potentially move to Emirates, we are handed the reality of the difficult situation right now. Moreover, we also need to keep an eye out for the unknown interested parties as well.

However, the Champions League advantage we hold over our North London rivals could play a part as top players usually want to play in the highest level of competition. If that is the case, perhaps we could use that factor to gain an edge over our bitter competitors.

Jesus would undoubtedly be a useful reinforcement, considering how we lack someone who can support Harry Kane inside the team. He can also pair up with the Englishman up front if both wear Spurs white next season. The latter seems more realistic as he may not want to switch City- a club where he is struggling for regular starts- for a club where he continues to struggle for consistent minutes.

That’s not all, as Jesus could play on both sides of the wing as an inside forward which would give Conte the freedom to tweak his system around if necessary. All in all, we are in line for an interesting couple of weeks up ahead, so let’s wait and see how this situation will develop this summer.
