FC Barcelona do not exactly have a lot of time left before the start of the new La Liga season. With that, the club would officially begin the next official campaign and all other operations will have to be sidelined. Unfortunately, Barcelona is falling behind in some aspects.

The most obvious issue concerning the official season remains the club’s big stadium problem. Originally expected to return to the Spotify Camp Nou in September for their first home game of the season, that possibility is now being questioned due to recent issues.

Previously, even the club’s upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy game against Como was originally expected to take place at the Camp Nou. Unfortunately, that option has now been scrapped altogether and the club will use an alternative venue for it.

The Johan Cruyff Stadium has a major shortcoming

The Estadi Johan Cruyff, or Johan Cruyff Stadium, will be the venue for that particular clash. However, it will not be used by the club for their La Liga games up ahead. The reason for that is something that the club can not just change without proper planning.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the reason as to why the Johan Cruyff Stadium is not a viable option to host La Liga games is the venue’s capacity. Only able to facilitate 6000 spectators, La Liga requires top flight stadiums to have an attendance capability of at least 8000 spectators.

The current capacity of the stadium results in it being labelled as a Category 3 stadium for now. In order to host La Liga games, any stadium must be a Category 1 or Category 2 stadium, and the Johan Cruyff stadium does not fall in either of those two categories.

Only two real options for Barcelona

Ultimately, the only two options that the club realistically has are the Camp Nou and the Montjuic Stadium. Either way, a return to the Camp Nou remains a top priority for Barcelona, and the Montjuic Stadium remains an alternative option.

For now, the club continues to focus on the ongoing preseason tour in Asia. Up next for the club is a game against FC Seoul, and there is another game in Asia planned right after it before the club finally returns to Spain.
