Liverpool have reportedly been attracted to Wolfsburg winger Josip Brekalo ahead of the summer transfer window due to his €20m valuation.

According to Croatian outlet TPortal, Liverpool and Arsenal have both been alerted to his availability and are looking at him as a potential target.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Brekalo, on paper, has had a fairly average season for club and country. The 22-year-old has eight goals and five assists in 42 games for Wolfsburg and Croatia, including four goals and three assists in 27 appearances in the Bundesliga. He has averaged a WhoScored rating of 6.74 in the league, which places him 12th within the Wolfsburg squad.

This suggests that Brekalo has not had an outstanding season and that he is not even one of Wolfsburg’s top performers, given that 11 other players have averaged higher ratings in the Bundesliga. However, he is only 22 and Liverpool, Arsenal and Milan could be looking past his performances this season and thinking about what sort of player he could develop into in years to come.

Perhaps, Liverpool are attracted to the prospect of signing Brekalo for €20m as they feel it could end up being a bargain. Whilst he may not be worth €20m right now, given his lack of end product this season, Liverpool could see that he has the requisite qualities to exceed that valuation with the right coaching, which he could potentially get at Anfield.
