In the final hours of the summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain addressed one of the weak spots in their starting eleven, left-back. Juan Bernat has yet to return from his knee injury, and the capital club did their best to offload but didn’t succeed.

As a result, it left Abdou Diallo as the only viable player to fill the role, which is why sporting director Leonardo swooped in and secured a loan deal for Nuno Mendes from Sporting CP.

Furthermore, the plan for Les Parisiens is to sign him on a permanent deal in 2022, meaning they’ll activate the €40-million buy option that came attached on the loan agreement with Sporting.

PSG signed Nuno on loan [€7-million] because of Financial Fair Play, but the idea was already clear: he’s “one for the future,” Romano adds. Mendes has made six appearances for the French giants and has yet to register a goal or an assist this season.
