Now former Paris Saint-Germain forward and current free agent Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will not be returning to the club this season, and now further details are emerging as to why the two sides failed to agree on a deal.

PSG refused to meet Choupo-Moting’s demands for a two-year contract deal, according to a report from L’Equipe. PSG settled on offering Choupo-Moting a one-year contract, which would have then made him a free agent once again next year. Choupo-Moting pushed for a two-year deal, but PSG never budged. Thus, the two sides decided to end contract talks and part ways.

The report mentions that Choupo-Moting felt “attached” to the club, especially after the team’s UEFA Champions League knockout stage run last month. He hoped to come to terms on a multi-year deal, but PSG preferred to instead seek to keep the forward around for one more season and then find a new backup forward next year.

Choupo-Moting has reportedly had interest from clubs in Germany and Italy, although there have been no reports of any team showing serious intrigue in signing the forward. For the moment, Choupo-Moting remains a free agent with the ability to sign with any team without a transfer fee being posted to acquire him.
