After much speculation, Xavi Hernandez will be hitting the exit door at the end of the season after all.

Today, Barcelona president Joan Laporta communicated the decision to the 44-year-old in a meeting held at the Ciutat Esportiva.

While it has yet to be announced officially, the name that looks set to replace Xavi on the bench is former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick.

When will Flick be presented?

According to AS the initial plan is to present Flick on Thursday or Friday next week.

The purpose of the date for Barcelona’s new coach announcement is to deflect attention from the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund and give fans hope following a disappointing campaign.

Furthermore, the report adds that the German coach will sign a two-year deal with Barcelona. The agreement includes a guaranteed first year and an automatic extension for the second year unless either party objects.

The pre-season schedule remains unchanged, starting on July 8 with many squad members absent due to Euro Cup and Copa America commitments.

Then, the United States tour begins on July 28, featuring tough matches against Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Milan.

As such, Flick will be eager to make use of the friendly matches to tinker around and get a good idea of the team’s potential.

Laporta consulted three Barcelona players before agreeing deal with Flick

Indeed, according to prior reports, the Barcelona president consulted Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ilkay Gundogan, both of whom played under Flick for the German national team.

He also took Lewandowski’s advice, with the Polish talisman familiar with Flick through his time at Bayern Munich.
