Mohamed Salah has built a reputation for his cool-headedness, both on and off the pitch. His recent comments about his contract may hint at his desire to cement his position at Liverpool, but such moments of outward expression are rare. More often, Salah is a beacon of composure, displaying unshakable focus and a hunger for success. His ability to remain calm even in challenging circumstances has left an indelible impression on teammates, including Ibrahima Konate.
Salah’s poise was particularly evident during an incident in Paris, as recounted by Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate. Highlighting the challenges both have faced, Konate shared his own experiences of discrimination and the profound respect he holds for Salah.
“Playing for the French team does not prevent me from experiencing a few more mishaps,” Konate revealed to So Foot via Sport Witness. He went on to describe the treatment he receives at Charles-de-Gaulle airport. “When I arrive at Charles-de-Gaulle, the person hasn’t even seen my ticket yet and directs me to the other line. What’s the message behind that? It’s just a person like me has no place in business.”

His admiration for Salah was evident when describing an incident in Paris. “One day, he (Salah) came to Paris, and at the airport, people didn’t know who he was. In a store, the employees spoke to him in a… let’s say discriminatory tone.” Yet Salah’s response, Konate noted, exemplified his remarkable patience. “Mohamed Salah, he is an extremely patient person. In this kind of situation, he does not react. He knows what he is worth, and he accepted the world in which we live.”
Salah’s ability to remain unbothered took on a poignant twist when recognition altered the treatment he received. “When a traveller recognised him, the tone of the employees changed radically: ‘Ah, Mr. Salah, what do you need?’ For us, you have to be someone well-known to be esteemed.”
While Salah continues to prove his worth as Liverpool’s talisman, uncertainty looms over his future. The Egyptian star revealed he is yet to receive an offer for a contract extension, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Konate, whose contract runs until 2026, is reportedly in discussions for a new deal, underscoring his value in Arne Slot’s defensive setup.
