According to transfer news from Express, former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants Serge Aurier at PSG. A £17m switch to the Paris club is very close, with the Ivorian set to return where he used to ply his trade before joining Spurs.
Aurier signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017 from PSG. However, the Ivory Coast international had to play second-fiddle to Kieran Trippier in his first couple of seasons at the club. Following the Englishman’s transfer to Atletico Madrid in 2019, Aurier became the first-choice right-back but had an up and down season.
This led to Tottenham signing Matt Doherty from Wolves last summer. And even though the Irishman started the season as first-choice, poor performances and injury issues meant that he eventually yielded the place to Aurier again. The 28-year-old finished the season with 27 games in all competitions in which he scored twice and set up three more.
However, now that the 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the north London club, it seems like he will not be extending his stay. A reunion with Mauricio Pochettino is on the cards as PSG try to sign him for £17m.
With Aurier set to be sold, it would leave Doherty as the only right-back at Tottenham, although Japhet Tanganga can play in the position. Nevertheless, it could lead to the recruitment of a new right-sided full-back come summer.
