Transfer News: Manchester United want to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka in starting XI with Nordi Mukiele

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are targeting a move for RB Leipzig defender, Nordi Mukiele, in an attempt to displace Aaron Wan-Bissaka from their starting XI.

The club apparently does not see the former Crystal Palace defender as a pinned starter down the right-hand side, and want to bring in the Frenchman to take that position.

The report also mentions the lack of faith in Diogo Dalot from the Red Devils. Mukiele, 23, is a sturdy defender who can play in midfield, central defence, and as a right-back.

Manchester United are spoiled for choices down the left-hand side with Alex Telles and Luke Shaw. The same cannot be said for the right-back slot, where Wan-Bissaka leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to attacking.

Mukiele to MUFC?

Mukiele’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, and United want to take advantage of the defender entering into the last year of his deal by making an approach in the summer transfer window next year.

The report goes on to state that the Red Devils have previously targeted Premier League full-backs such as Tariq Lamptey and Max Aarons. However, they now want to bring in a player from overseas to reduce their financial investment.

This doesn’t really make sense for a Manchester United fan to read. The club spent a big amount to bring in Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace a few years back, and surely they knew the kind of player they were buying.

The Englishman has performed to his best capabilities and there is nothing to suggest that Mukiele will be a massive upgrade on the attacking front if brought in. Nevertheless, it would make for good competition and that is always beneficial for the team as a whole.
