Manchester United are keen to recoup a sizeable transfer fee for Donny van de Beek amidst January links with Barcelona

According to El Nacional (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United are willing to let go of Donny van de Beek amidst interest from Barcelona but will look to command a sizeable transfer fee for him.

The Red Devils currently possess a chunk of central midfielders, courtesy of which game-time has not come easy for Van de Beek. The Dutch international managed less than 1500 minutes last season, with most of them coming off the bench.

Understandably, the 24-year-old was eyeing a deal to Everton this summer, but it was later blocked off by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the midfielder had to stay put at Old Trafford.

While he would have expected to play more by now, the Dutchman is still suffering in his own pool of frustration as he continues to be named on the bench more often than being one of the names on the team sheet.

He is yet to start in the Premier League this season but was handed a start in the club’s Champions League game against B.S.C Young Boys while he was also fielded against West Ham in the EFL Cup. Neither were successful outings, and Barcelona are now ready to put the former Ajax ace out of his misery.

Man United to let go of Van de Beek in January?

The Blaugrana are plotting a loan move for the 24-year-old, but this deal could have some obstacles. Firstly, United want the Spanish giants to include a mandatory option to buy in the deal– something the Nou Camp outfit are not keen on due to their financial situation.

But if a permanent transfer is being eyed, then the Manchester-based club want at least €25million for the midfielder’s services as they are keen on recouping a major chunk of the £35million they spent on the Dutchman last summer.

Thus, with the criteria set for an exit, it remains to be seen where Van de Beek plays his football in 2022.
