Liverpool told to shell out £68m for Diego Carlos

According to a report from AS (h/t Mirror), La Liga outfit Sevilla will not sell star defender Diego Carlos, who is a reported target for Liverpool, for anything less than £68m.

The 27-year-old Carlos joined Sevilla only last year from French outfit Nantes. But he has made a huge impact in his debut season in Spain, emerging as one of the best centre-backs in the competition.

The Brazilian’s performances at the back played a big part in the club finishing fourth in the league and qualifying for the Champions League for next season. Carlos ended the 2019/20 campaign with 41 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with a couple of goals as well.

Carlos’ impact in Spain seem to have attracted the interest of Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp & co. must look to strengthen the squad if we are to enjoy sustained success after our first-ever Premier League triumph. And defence is one area where we could do with more quality and depth. More so, after having sold Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian has departed the club for Zenit St. Petersburg and given Joel Matip’s injury problems, adding another experienced head at the back would be a good move. Carlos, to that end, would be a fine acquisition.

However, Sevilla will not entertain any offers for the Brazilian that are less than £68m. Considering that he still has four years left on his contract, the La Liga giants have no need to sell and are expected to hold firm on their stance.

It is very much unlikely that we will be splashing so much cash on a single player this summer. So, it would be fair to assume that the interest in Carlos is unlikely to materialise into an offer. Real Betis’ Aissa Mandi has emerged as a more realistic alternative.
