Christoph Baumgartner is reportedly attracting the interest of Liverpool as a low-cost alternative to some of the other big midfield targets that are being linked with the Reds at the moment.
The player features for Hoffenheim and is with the Austrian national team at the European Championships this summer, so he has the chance to show off what he can do on the big stage and potentially earn himself a big move.
And, according to the Liverpool Echo via Caught Offside, the player is of interest to Liverpool this summer as they weigh up getting a new midfield recruit.
Indeed, according to the report, the Reds see him as a low-cost alternative to the likes of Youri Tielemans as he’s not as well known, as things stand, as the Belgium and Leicester City star.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
It’s the sort of transfer and move we’ve seen Liverpool complete before, especially under Jurgen Klopp.
Going for players that still have that level of progression to go through before becoming household names is what the Reds like to do, as it means they do not have to break the bank and they usually end up with a top player on their hands.
Could the Austrian be the next man to fit that description, then? Only time will tell…
