Liverpool hire Russ Richardson to bolster scouting department

According to the ECHO, Liverpool have bolstered their scouting department in the ongoing transfer window with the addition of former Aberdeen head of recruitment, Russ Richardson.

The newest addition to the club’s backroom staff will take up role in helping the Reds unearth special talents within the United Kingdom.

Richardson spent eight years in his role with Scottish giants Aberdeen, prior to which he was the chief scout at lower league English club Bristol City.

During his time with the Dons, Richardson largely worked in identifying and recruiting talent from lower league English clubs and moving them on for profits.

However, he resigned from his post in May earlier this year – two months after former Aberdeen manager Derek McInness had stepped down from his job at the Pittodrie.

Liverpool have now acted quickly to secure Richardson’s services. As per the aforementioned report, the ex-head of recruitment at Aberdeen will work under Dave Fallows, who is the head of scouting and recruitment at Liverpool and the Reds’ chief scout, Barry Hunter.

With the Brexit rules kicking in, it has become important for clubs to bolster their youth ranks with young talents from within the country – a fact that has not been lost on Liverpool. Indeed, the Merseyside giants have made signings like Calum Scanlon, Kaide Gordon already.

And Richardson’s appointment is another step in that direction, as the club looks to make the most of his connections and network to get their hands on the best young talent in the United Kingdom.
