Liverpool’s defensive ranks could be in for a significant reshuffle this summer as Milos Kerkez edges closer to a £40 million switch from Bournemouth. The Hungarian international’s potential arrival raises questions over the future of long-time deputy left-back Kostas Tsimikas, who has been linked with newly promoted Leeds United.
Despite being second fiddle to Andy Robertson since his arrival in 2020, Tsimikas has played an important, if underappreciated, role in the Liverpool squad. Leeds, preparing for life back in the Premier League, reportedly see the 29-year-old Greek as a reliable and experienced option to bolster their backline.

In a candid interview with Greek outlet Sport24, Tsimikas made it clear that he has no intention of forcing a move away from Merseyside. His words struck a tone of gratitude and contentment, despite being a perennial understudy.
“I’m happy here, for five years I’ve always been happy with these players I had next to me and with the jersey I wore.”
“It’s very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in one season in a Liverpool shirt.”
Tsimikas emphasised the value of his game time at a club of Liverpool’s stature, noting that while he’d prefer more minutes, he’s proud of what he’s contributed.
“I would definitely like to play more, but from then on in this league, with this team I was always happy and I always gave my best, so I was OK with the games I played.”
While Robertson’s future remains uncertain amid interest from Atletico Madrid, Tsimikas could still have a key part to play at Anfield – albeit possibly as a backup to the incoming Kerkez rather than his long-time Scottish teammate.
Whether Robertson departs or not, Liverpool’s left-back depth chart appears set for a reordering. Still, Tsimikas’ professionalism and team-first attitude ensure he remains a valuable squad member. His departure, if it comes, will be about opportunity rather than unrest.
Beloved for his energy, work ethic, and personality, Tsimikas’ impact at Liverpool has often extended beyond the pitch. As a popular dressing room figure, his presence has helped keep squad morale high, particularly during long and congested seasons.
His 27 appearances in the this season highlight that even backup players play a crucial role in elite-level clubs. With pre-season on the horizon and managerial shifts underway, the Greek Scouser – as fans affectionately call him – isn’t planning his exit just yet.
For many Liverpool fans, Tsimikas embodies the kind of dependable squad player every successful team needs. He’s never complained, always stepped up when needed, and brought a great attitude on and off the pitch. While he may not have had the consistent starts many would have hoped for, he’s handled his role with humility and determination.
Let’s be honest – 27 appearances in one season isn’t a sign of someone sitting on the fringes. That’s more than enough to stay match-sharp and make a difference, especially in cup runs and rotation-heavy periods. With Robertson potentially heading to Atletico Madrid, fans might actually feel reassured that Tsimikas is still around to help Kerkez settle or even take on more responsibility if needed.
Some might argue it’s time for him to move on to play regular football, and that’s fair. Leeds would be getting a smart, hardworking pro with Premier League pedigree. But from a Liverpool fan’s point of view, losing him would be a blow to the depth and the dressing room dynamic.
If this is the end for him at Anfield, he leaves with the admiration and respect of the Kop. But if he stays, no one’s complaining either.
