Barcelona were unable to renew Lionel Messi’s contract owing to financial trouble and would not have been able to register the Argentine even if he decided to play for free. However, life at Paris Saint-Germain is very different for Leo.
Despite reducing his salary significantly to sign for PSG, it is reported by L’Equipe that Messi will earn up to €110 million over three years. This total is divided in three installments of €30 million in the first season, €40 million in the second season and €40 million in the third season.
This salary would help Leo retain the title of the highest paid player in the world even though he has slashed his amount by quite a bit. In fact, PSG host three of the highest paid players in the world in Messi, Neymar Jr, and Kylian Mbappe.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has played 114 minutes with the Parisian outfit so far, with his debut coming against Stade de Reims. He started the game against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League, but was unable to inspire a victory for the team despite being the best outfield player in a white shirt.
Messi is likely to be in action against Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 on Sunday night as PSG hope to continue their perfect start in the league with six wins out of six.
