Leeds United started their pre-season schedule with a goalless draw against rivals Manchester United in Stockholm.

Backed by an impressive travelling contingent, the Whites took to the field at the Strawberry Arena in blistering heat modelling the new 2025/26 away kit.

Daniel Farke named a strong starting XI, handing first starts for the club to new signings Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha. Fellow recent editions Gabriel Gudmundsson, Sean Longstaff and Sebastiaan Bornauw entered the action after the break.

Leeds began on the front foot as a neat interchange between Willy Gnonto and Jayden Bogle sent the latter racing away down the right flank.

The defender darted into the area and saw a cross take a dangerous deflection towards goal which was cleared off the line by the retreating Noussair Mazraoui.

The Whites continued to dominate in the Swedish capital and were frustrating the opposition as a series of heavy challenges went in, though Leeds still retained the lion’s share of possession.

Karl Darlow was first called into action on the half-hour mark, making a strong intervention to parry Chido Obi’s curling effort away from danger.

Farke’s side were threading some intricate passages of play together and Nmecha would have had a sight of goal if not for the alert Altay Bayındır who rushed out to collect Bogle’s through ball.

Approaching the beak, Manchester United went close to breaking the deadlock as Obi dragged a low strike wide of the far post after finding space inside the area, before Casemiro’s deflected cross cannoned off the crossbar.

As to be expected, both teams rang the changes at the break. Eight alterations came from the Whites’ dugout with just Bogle, Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev remaining from the first half.

Play resumed in familiar fashion with Leeds on the front foot and a first goal almost arrived as Joël Piroe found the overlapping run of Bogle who forced a superb save from substitute keeper Tom Heaton.

From the resulting corner, Tanaka was also desperately unlucky to not open the scoring. In space at the back post, the Japanese international was unable to bundle home on the turn.

Heaton’s services were again called upon moments later, making a fine sprawling parry after the newly introduced Largie Ramazani fired towards the bottom corner from a narrow angle.

The Manchester United stopper’s goal continued to be under siege as he then made another crucial save low to his left to deny Ramazani once more.

Leeds had to be alert down the other end however and Illan Meslier got down brilliantly well at his near post to tip an inventive Patrick Dorgu shot past the woodwork.

In the dying moments, Kobbie Mainoo rattled the crossbar following a scramble inside the area with Adam Ladebäck’s full-time whistle then bringing an exciting encounter to a close.
