Last summer, more than a few eyebrows were raised when Bayern Munich completed a €15m last-minute move to sign Marc Roca from Espanyol.
As expected, the 24-year-old’s career didn’t exactly take off after arriving in Bavaria last season, making just 11 appearances in all competitions, totalling 519 minutes.
However, one person that wasn’t surprised that the German champions made a move for the Spaniard is current Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann.
According to a report from Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg, Nagelsmann was attempting to bring Roca to RB Leipzig before Bayern swooped in.
Considering Nagelsmann’s previous interest and Roca’s recent decision to skip the Tokyo Olympics to get a full pre-season in under the new Bayern boss, the midfielder could find himself with an abundance of new chances this season.
With Bayern now in need of an adequate backup option for Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, Roca could be on the fast-track for regular playing time.
