Inter Milan are reportedly unlikely to agree a new contract with Hakan Calhanoglu, even though the Turk has stayed at the club.
This according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that it looks fairly likely that Calhanoglu could leave next summer.
Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu stayed at Inter Milan this summer. He did so in spite of a lot of transfer rumours, though.
Galatasaray had reportedly been keen to sign the 31-year-old former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.
However, the Gazzetta report that the Istanbul giants did not even make Inter an official offer.
A deal for Calhanoglu would simply have been out of reach financially for Galatasaray.
For one thing, the Turkish international was insisting on a wage increase from the €7.5 million net per season plus add-ons he earns at Inter. And he wanted at least a three-year deal.
Then, convincing Inter with an offer would have been no mean feat.
Reports indicate that Inter wanted somewhere in the region of €25-30 million for Calhanoglu. If nothing else, to have the cash to reinvest in a suitable replacement.

Another reason why Inter were not likely to accept a low ball offer for Calhanoglu is that the 31-year-old still has two years left to run on his contract. His deal expires at the end of June 2027.
However, the situation will change significantly next summer. That is, if Calhanoglu does not sign a new deal.
If Inter were to agree a contract extension with Calhanoglu then they could lock him down for a few more years.
However, next summer would represent Inter’s last chance to cash in if Calhanoglu doesn’t extend his deal.
According to the Gazzetta, there is little scope for Calhanoglu to sign a new contract, however.
Therefore, the conditions for Galatasaray – or any other interested club – to sign the Turkish international will change significantly next summer.
