Inter Milan’s Under-23 team have debuted with the same 3-4-2-1 shape that Cristian Chivu plans to use with the senior team.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Similar to Juventus’s Next Gen team and AC Milan’s Milan Futuro, the Under-23 team will be a pipeline for younger players into senior football.
And yesterday, the Under-23 team took to the pitch for the first time. They faced Trento in a friendly match.

Inter fell behind twice to friendly, but equalized on both occasions. Luka Topalovic and Alessandro Fontanarosa were the scorers of their two goals.
And as the Gazzetta note, the formation that Stefano Vecchi used was a 3-4-2-1 shape.
That is significant because Cristian Chivu is planning to use that same system with the senior team.
Therefore, the message looks to be clear.
Inter’s Under-23 team will look to mirror the senior team in terms of formation and playing style. Therefore, the club are aiming to best prepare the young players for first team action.
