Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani has reportedly sustained a muscle injury while on international duty with Albania.
According to FCInterNews, the Albanian Football Federation announced the 22-year-old has suffered a muscular problem in the build-up to Albania’s UEFA Nations League clash against the Czech Republic.
Therefore, he will likely sit out the match at Prague’s epet ARENA.
However, perhaps overly optimistic, the Albanians expect Asllani to return to training tomorrow morning.
Troubled by the pain, he was absent from this morning’s training session.
Despite his relatively sparse game time at Inter this season, the former Empoli playmaker is indispensable for Sylvinho’s set-up.
Indeed, Asllani was Albania’s standout performer at EURO 2024.
He helped his side win the hearts of neutrals with spirited performances in the so-called ‘group of death.’
Despite failing to post a single win, the Red and Blacks fared well against more heavily fancied Croatia, Italy, and Spain.
Asllani has been Hakan Calhanoglu’s understudy since swapping Empoli for Inter in 2022.
Last season, he only made six Serie A starts despite accruing 23 league appearances.
Nothing has changed at the start of the new campaign.
Simone Inzaghi has handed the versatile midfielder only one top-flight start.
But though he racked up just 142 minutes of league action in 2024/25, the Inter boss holds Asllani in high esteem.
Asllani’s contract extension in mid-September perhaps best illustrates the club’s trust in the Albanian ace.
With matches coming thick and fast this season, it’s only natural to assume his playing time will increase.
However, he must be patient, as it’s hard to expect Inzaghi to drop Calhanoglu from his starting XI.
The Turkish superstar remains a focal point of Inter’s attack, pulling all the strings in the engine room.
