Inter Milan cannot catch a break with injured first-team stars as Carlos Augusto joined the growing list of absentees after Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League game against Young Boys.

According to FCInterNews, the former Monza wingback suffered a thigh injury and will have to undergo further checks in the morning to understand the extent of the problem.

Simone Inzaghi handed the versatile Brazilian defender a rare opportunity to start at the expense of Federico Dimarco.

Indeed, reduced to the Italian superstar’s understudy, Augusto has spent most of his career at Inter as a benchwarmer.

However, he failed to seize the chance in Bern.

Like other second-string stars to have started the game at the Stadion Wankdorf, Augusto ceased to impress.

The 25-year-old couldn’t gain a foothold on a synthetic pitch during Inter’s disheartening first-half performance.

But things went from bad to worse at the start of the second half.

Augusto made his signature run into the box, trying to get on the end of a hopeful through ball.

Though it looked like an innocuous situation, the ex-Monza man had to leave the pitch immediately.

Inzaghi subbed Augusto off immediately after the incident in the 54th minute.

Dimarco took the Brazilian’s place and went on to set up Marcus Thuram for a stoppage-time winner.

While Inter won 1-0, Augusto cannot forget the Wednesday night soon enough.

Indeed, he reportedly experienced discomfort in the left thigh flexors and will undergo further scans in the coming days.

By the looks of things, he’ll be unavailable for selection against Juventus.

The reigning Scudetto holders will square off against the Bianconeri in a mouth-watering Serie A clash on Sunday.

Even though Augusto will likely be on the sidelines, Inzaghi can still call upon Dimarco’s services.
