Inter Milan have recorded the second largest social media fanbase growth of any club in world football over the last five years.
This according to today’s print edition of Italian business newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, via FCInter1908.
Inter Milan have focused significantly on their social media growth over the last few years.
That had certainly been the case under the ownership of Suning. The Nerazzurri had placed significant emphasis on growing commercial revenues, particularly due to the slowdown of other earnings during lockdown.
Accordingly, Inter took major steps to increase their profile and grow their brand.
And Inter’s efforts look to have paid off.
Between the Nerazzurri’s increasing sponsorship deals and online presence, the club have 533 million social media followers, reports Il Sole 24 Ore.
There are 154 followers in China alone, where there have been significant inroads. The fact that Inter’s previous owners were a Chinese company is not a coincidence in this regard.
Meanwhile, Inter have announced a new commercial partnership with Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD.
There have also been several preseason tours of Asia in recent years.
Furthermore, Inter have 90 million social media followers in South America. This is perhaps little surprise considering some of the high-profile South Americans in their squad – above all, captain Lautaro Martinez.
Il Sole 24 Ore observe that this growth to 533 fans on social media is the second largest of any club in Europe over the last five years.
