While it was joy unconfined for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Saturday, Leon Goretzka is counting the cost of his brief involvement against Borussia Moenchengladbach.
The Bayern midfielder replaced David Alaba on the hour mark at the Allianz Arena, but was forced off less than 10 minutes later.
According to kicker, the 26-year-old tore his hamstring during the 6-0 victory and is now in a “race against time” to be fit for Euro 2020 next month.
His club season is definitely over, but that won’t unduly affect Bayern as they have already collected the championship silverware.
The Bavarians have yet to confirm the injury, but Bild has also reported that the issue had been diagnosed.
This will be a worrying development for Germany manager Joachim Löw, with Goretzka having established himself as a midfield lynchpin for the national side.
Die Mannscaft will face France at Bayern’s home ground on 15 June, with Portugal and Hungary the other teams to make up Group F.
