Paris Saint-Germain right-back Alessandro Florenzi is expected to miss the Italian national team’s Euro 2020 group stage fixture against Switzerland due to injury, according to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb.

Florenzi earned the start for Italy in its Euro 2020 opener against Turkey. The PSG full-back was subbed off at half-time of the match after suffering a right calf injury.

The Italian talent underwent a further medical examination of his injury on Saturday. Florenzi’s medical tests confirmed his calf injury and as a result, the defender is on par to miss Italy’s upcoming showdown with Switzerland.

Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini is slated to start Napoli full-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo in Florenzi’s place for the team’s second group stage fixture of the tournament.

Barring any setbacks, Florenzi could be available to feature against Wales on June 20 for Italy’s final match of the group stage round.

However, Mancini may be leaning towards resting his starters for the match against Wales if the side clinches a spot in the knockout stage following the fixture against Switzerland. More so, the Italian manager likely prefers not to risk playing Florenzi against Wales considering the risk that he could re-aggravate his injury.
