Burnley transfer stance on Tottenham linked Nick Pope

According to Lancs Live, Burnley have taken a clear stance that they won’t be selling Tottenham linked Nick Pope on the cheap. Tottenham are the latest club to be linked to the Clarets’ shot-stopper.

Spurs are considering making a move for the English keeper as they see him as a viable successor to Hugo Lloris. However, Burnley are straight-up refusing to speak about a transfer, given how important he has become for them over the last few seasons.

A long-term contract until 2023 and his form over recent seasons means that Burnely could end up asking for an eye-watering £50million for him. Manager Sean Dyche has already spoken on the player last summer, while also discussing the future of some of the other star players.

“The difference is we’re not having to sell. If we sell it will be a decision made for different reasons than would have been the case four or five years ago. “In the past we sold players, but now we can consider trading. We’re not in a position that we have to. There would have to be alignment of all the parties involved to consider it to be the right deal and that right deal is according to Burnley Football Club and not anyone else. “That’s because of how the club is run and it’s in good shape financially, even with what’s going on with the Covid situation.”

It would surely be hard to prise away Pope from the Clarets given how they resisted selling James Tarkowski over last summer. There is also the huge transfer fee but with Lloris nearing his twilight years, it would make sense for Spurs to invest money in a solid keeper.
