Daniel Levy will not bend to the contract demands of Harry Kane

According to TEAMtalk (h/t Express), Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is not keen to hand Harry Kane a new contract due to his demands. The striker wants a release clause in his new contract while Levy is not keen on entertaining that wish and will not offer Kane a new deal.

Harry Kane and Daniel Levy were at loggerheads over the summer. The talismanic striker had grown frustrated after another trophyless season and made it clear that he wanted to leave. There was the belief from Kane that he had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Levy over a possible exit, something the chairman did not acknowledge.

Manchester City tried their best to get Kane but fell short of the demands placed by Tottenham chairman Levy. It was simple because Spurs had no reason to sell Kane who has a contract till 2024. After it was clear that a move to City was not possible, Kane decided to stay put. And ever since, talks of a new contract have been doing the rounds.

Kane wants a release clause inserted in the new deal. That might not be the case as Daniel Levy has refused to hand him a new deal by conforming to Kane’s wishes. He knows that Kane is still bound to the club for another three seasons and an exit is not on the cards. Any release clause takes Levy out of the equation and it’s not surprising he is not keen on that.

Tottenham and Levy have never really put release clauses in players’ contracts and they surely will not be putting one on their most prized asset. From the looks of it, Kane might not be getting his new contract should he want a release clause. Spurs are also in no hurry with a new deal as there is still a lot of time.
