Report claims Ryan Kent is to leave Rangers after rejection of deal

A national red top has made the claim that Ryan Kent has outright rejected a new Rangers deal and will leave for free next year.

The winger, off the back of an improved display at Hearts yesterday, was still being generally criticised by most supporters, including Ally McCoist we must say, for having an apparently underwhelming match, but reports today have made the allegation that Kent has said a final no to Rangers and will move on to pastures new in 2023.

This would have been a surprise to us some months ago with the information we had on him, but things have clearly changed for Kent, and his refusal to sign a new deal (he’s not addressed a word on it to the media) which has been on the table to him for a long time now is becoming pretty clear.

Of course, many will point to Connor Goldson’s about-turn, but he’d had that contract offer since May 2020 and only finally signed it two years later, so anyone making a claim that he was always going to stay is patently incorrect.

But Kent is different – he has time on his side, and it appears he’s been seduced by the exits of Joe Aribo, Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey and wants to take a shot at the PL himself before it’s too late.

It appears the lure of the Champions League isn’t as strong as the lure of the PL and Kent is indeed free to talk to clubs in January.

The sad thing for Rangers is the club appears, at this point, vulnerable to losing out on the £20M escape clause in his contract, not to mention the £7.5M outlay shelled out on him in the first place.

But them’s the breaks we suppose, and as a club we too have massively benefited from lucrative free agents over the years, John Lundstram and Ryan Jack being two such, not to mention McGregor, Arfield and Davis.

So we may lose out this time.
