The arrival of Cristian Chivu as the new coach could push Inter Milan to bring back midfielder Giovanni Fabbian from Bologna.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan sold midfielder Giovanni Fabbian to Bologna in the summer of 2023.

The Italy Under-21 international did not just join the Emilian club on loan. Rather, Inter sold him outright.

However, the Nerazzurri do retain control over Fabbian’s future. There is a €12 million buyback clause in the deal that saw the 22-year-old join Bologna.

Considering that buyback clause, Inter will have a decision to make this summer regarding Giovanni Fabbian.

The young midfielder had been one of the stars of Inter’s youth teams. He played under Cristian Chivu at the Primavera, or Under-19 level, where he earned himself a move to Serie B.

Fabbian had one outstanding season on loan with Reggina in the second division. Then, he made the move to Bologna, where he has been playing for two seasons.

And now, Cristian Chivu is the first team coach of Inter, replacing Simone Inzaghi.

According to the Corriere, this could be a big point in favour of Inter re-signing Fabbian.

The fact that Chivu has so much experience working with the youth teams means that he will definitely aim to integrate the younger players more.

Therefore, the Romanian could ask Inter to exercise their buyback clause on Fabbian.
