Chelsea are reportedly closing in on the signing of Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, effectively ending their interest in Andriy Lunin, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Lunin, currently under contract with Real Madrid until June 2025, has expressed his desire for more playing time, leaving open the possibility of departing the club as Thibaut Courtois remains Madrid’s first-choice keeper.

Speaking in a recent interview following the Euro Cup, Lunin commented on his uncertain future, stating, “We will see what happens, my future is in the hands of Madrid.” This uncertainty has fueled speculation about his next career move.

What is Real Madrid’s plan with Lunin?

Real Madrid staff at Valdebebas is aware of Lunin’s willingness to seek a new challenge. His new agent, Jorge Mendes, has been actively exploring potential opportunities for him across Europe, including a possible transfer to Chelsea.

Mendes is known for his influential role in the football world, having represented numerous high-profile players including Leny Yoro, who snubbed Real Madrid for Manchester United.

Meanwhile, despite Mendes’ efforts, Chelsea have chosen to move forward with Jorgensen. The 22-year-old goalkeeper from Villarreal is set to join the Blues for just over €24 million

This decision comes amid Chelsea’s search for a reliable goalkeeper, as their current roster includes Robert Sanchez, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Dorde Petrovic, and Gabriel Slonina.

Reports from England indicate that none of these goalkeepers have impressed the coaching staff, prompting the club to pursue Jorgensen.

Real Madrid now face the challenge of addressing Lunin’s situation. The club must decide whether to offer him more playing time or facilitate a transfer to another club where he can achieve his career goals.

Lunin’s desire for more prominence is clear, and with the ongoing interest from various European clubs, Real Madrid must act swiftly to resolve his future.
