Chelsea have opted to recall Deivid Washington from his loan spell at Santos after Liam Delap’s injury according to reports.
The Blues had a busy summer and ended up making six signings, with five of those attacking, as the front line underwent a major revamp.
However, Liam Delap’s hamstring injury, which could rule him out for up to eight weeks, caused chaos over the final few days of the window.
Chelsea initially cancelled Nicolas Jackson’s loan move to Bayern Munich and ordered the player to return to London despite only just landing in Munich on Saturday.
Jackson made it clear he didn’t want to play for Chelsea again, and an agreement was eventually reached with there now an obligation to buy in the deal based on making a certain number of appearances.
Washington has played 25 minutes of football for Chelsea.
Chelsea then opted to recall Marc Guiu from Sunderland despite the Spaniard only joining the Black Cats earlier this summer.
However, according to Brazilian outlet UOL Chelsea have requested for Washington to return from his loan at Santos in the wake of Delap’s injury and Jackson’s departure.
The report adds Santos had the option to keep the striker, but agreed to return him, and Chelsea will pay a fee or deduct part of the loan fee agreed.
The Brazilian wasn’t doing particularly well at Santos, and managed just one goal in 19 appearances, but Washington did attract interest from Sunderland this summer.
The injury to Delap and Jackson’s departure have arguably left the Blues short upfront, and there will now be an increased reliance on Joao Pedro.

Guiu clearly has promise and potential, but whether he’s ready to lead the line for Chelsea in the Premier League and Champions League is unlikely.
The Spaniard made just three league appearances for the Blues last season, and it will be interesting to see if Enzo Maresca trusts him more this time around.
