Talks are continuing between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel with another meeting planned according to reports.

The Blues are set to have another busy summer, with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

It’s thought Chelsea could look to fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players, with a number of players now surplus to requirements.

Chelsea continue Kobel talks

Whilst a striker is the main priority supporters would like to see a new goalkeeper signed, although it’s unclear how likely that is.

Chelsea have once again had issues between the sticks this season with no keeper in the Premier League making more errors leading to goals than Robert Sanchez.

Despite having some good games this season the Spaniard isn’t popular with supporters and it’s believed the Blues will conduct a summer review of the goalkeeper position before deciding if they need to enter the market.

That hasn’t stopped Chelsea being linked with keepers and the strongest links with have been with Dortmund’s Kobel.

German football expert Christian Falk has provided an update on the situation and revealed Chelsea are in talks with the 27-year-old.

“There is a possibility that Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel could play in the Premier League next season,” he wrote in his Daily Briefing Column.

“Talks are continuing between Chelsea and the 27-year-old, with another meeting planned. BVB, however, don’t want to sell their No.1, which is why they’re setting a price tag of at least €60m.

“The bosses at Dortmund are also confident they can convince Kobel to stay put at the club. However, if the club fails to reach the Champions League places (Dortmund are in sixth place, three points outside the top four), it will be difficult to keep the shotstopper.”

Chelsea face goalkeeping decision

The Blues face a big decision in the summer with Djordje Petrovic returning from a successful loan with Strasbourg.

It’s expected Petrovic will compete for the number one shirt, and if Chelsea opt against signing a new keeper they will pick two from the Serb, Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders.

If Chelsea are serious about competing for the major trophies they need to upgrade in the position and get a top class shot stopper in otherwise they are in danger of falling behind
