Transfer News: Chelsea are interested in Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella

According to Calcio Mercato Web via Vince on Twitter (h/t football.london), Chelsea are interested in Nicolo Barella. The Inter Milan midfielder is said to be valued at £53 million.

The Blues were interested in the midfielder during the summer too, but nothing came off such rumours. And now the west London club seem to have reignited their interest in the Italian international.

Barella featured for his country in the game against England yesterday (September 23). He was again impressive in the middle of the park as the Nerazzurri beat the Three Lions 1-0 to relegate them from League A of the UEFA Nations League.

The midfielder joined Inter from Cagliari Calcio in the summer of 2020, after spending the season before on loan at the San Siro. Since then, he has established himself as a key figure for the Nerazzurri.

He went on to win the Scudetto in his first season at the Milan club and missed out very narrowly on the league title this season. The 25-year-old provided 13 assists in 36 league games last season. Such impressive numbers would interest any team.

Chelsea could do with a midfielder like the Italian in their side. N’Golo Kante and Jorginho have entered the final year of their current contracts and their future remains uncertain. Adding an experienced and exciting player like Barella would do the world of good to the west London club.

Barella won’t be the only Inter player to have moved to London this season with their star young prospect Cesar Casadei having joined the Blues this summer. The midfielder is playing for the youth system currently but could likely be called up for cup games.
