Club sources have informed Barça Universal that Hector Fort will stay on next season as a reserve player but will also be involved in the first team’s activities.

It is suggested that Barcelona are currently in talks with him to extend his contract since his current deal expires next year.

The 17-year-old full-back who has played five La Liga matches this season, has full support of Xavi. In fact, it was the manager’s continuity that helped him remain at the club.

If it were not for Xavi, there were high chances that Fort might have left since there have been several big teams interested in his acquisition.

Fort’s renewal is in progress

It is no secret that Barcelona are working on securing Fort’s long-term future at the club.

Xavi’s ongoing role as manager is expected to play a significant part in extending his contract, which could possibly include a pay raise and an increase in his release clause.

Now, it is to be noted that because of Fort’s young age, Barcelona cannot offer him a contract longer than three years at the moment.

However, they may plan to offer him a five-year deal to sign once he turns 18, which would effectively extend his time with the club.

At 17, Fort has proven he is capable of playing at first-team level and may serve as a backup right-back to Joao Cancelo in the next season, provided Cancelo is re-signed on loan or permanently from Manchester City.

Barcelona have rejected offers for Fort

Barcelona have received significant offers for Fort from European clubs, but they have rejected all of them.

For what it is worth, PSG have particularly expressed interest in several young Barcelona players this year, including Gavi, Lamine Yamal and even Pau Cubarsi.

Fort is also on their list of potential signings, as well as being on the radar of other clubs. However, Barcelona have been firm in their decision to reject any offers for the young talent.
