SPORT has some interesting revelations about Ronald Koeman’s plans heading into the clash against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

Just last week, only four players were confirmed to be starters on the night. Moreover, a rumoured decision to shift to a 3-5-2 formation further boggled the mind of journalists as it was relatively untested with this set of players.

However, now it is said that Gerard Pique and Ronald Araujo are likely to be the starting defenders against Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Pique’s condition is not known clearly, as the Spaniard was recuperating from an injury he sustained against Athletic Bilbao. However, he will reportedly start because of the importance of the match and the value of his experience.

The situation is reported similar even for Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba, who suffered a minor injury during the international break. Despite the setback, the sheer weight of the clash will force the veteran to start on the night.

Sergino Dest, too, was ruled out of the clash against the Bavarians after sustaining an injury on duty with the USMNT. If the youngster does not receive the medical all-clear in time, Oscar Mingueza will be the first choice to cover the right-back position.

Sergi Roberto would be the ideal replacement for Dest, however, his change in the role this season means he is no longer competing for a spot in the defence. The Spanish international seems likely to be the fourth midfielder to start on the night, alongside Pedri, Sergio Busquets and Frenkie de Jong.
