According to a report relayed by Barcelona based writer Piotr Guzinski, Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Arsenal academy graduate Charlie Patino, who is considered one of the brightest young talents in English football by many scouts.

Highlighted in the same report, is that the Spanish federation is also keen on having the player join their country’s ranks should he make the switch to Spain, but as of now there seems to be nothing concrete materialising regarding a move.

Patino is a deep-lying playmaker, who was noticed by Arsenal scout Brian Stapleton at Luton Town when he was a mere child. This is the same scout who recruited Jack Wilshere for the Gunners, also from Luton.

The 17-year-old Charlie Patino has been labelled by Stapleton as the greatest ever talent to come through the academy, in awe of the teenager’s vision, close control, and spatial awareness.

By the sound of it, the immensely technical left-footer seems a player tailor-made for Barcelona, which is why it is no surprise if the club is genuinely interested in him.

There is a great chance that Patino breaks into the Arsenal first-team this season, after his sensational performances with the U-23 squad. The Gunners’ head coach Mikel Arteta had already involved the midfielder in the first-team training sessions over the summer.

Patino already watches and analyses a lot of Spanish football, influenced a lot by their style. His father Julio also says that Barcelona is his favourite team. Could this be a match made in heaven?
