Report: Barcelona could swap Firpo for Arsenal’s Bellerin

Junior Firpo’s Barcelona career hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. The young left-back was brought from Real Betis as a big reinforcement and someone to rival Jordi Alba’s undisputed starting position. However, for one reason or the other, Firpo wasn’t able to adjust to the Catalans’ style and is spending most of his time warming the bench.

Not only that but it does seem like he could be on his way out of the club in the coming transfer window(s). On that note, a report from football.london claims Barcelona could be looking to negotiate a swap deal with Arsenal.

In that scenario, Firpo would move to the Emirates and a familiar face in Hector Bellerin would come (back) to the Camp Nou. The Gunners’ full-back is, according to the same update, ready to leave the London club and could find his way to Catalonia.

Bellerin was also close to leaving last summer when he had been linked with Paris Saint-Germain but was then persuaded by Mikel Arteta and Edu to stay at Arsenal. Now, however, the situation has once again changed and he would be open to leaving, as would Firpo, in fact.

The Gunners’ interest in Barcelona’s left-back is also nothing new. Arsenal tried to get him on loan in January but Firpo was adamant on staying at the Camp Nou. His view of the situation, though, has seemingly changed as well.

With both players keen on a move and both clubs showing interest in each other’s full-back, a swap deal could indeed be on the cards.

The summer transfer window is rapidly approaching and these two could very well be one of the stories to unfold.
