Real Madrid is currently aspiring to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe and Los Blancos could receive unexpected help from rivals FC Barcelona in its pursuit of the forward, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet AS.
Barcelona is set to take on PSG in a much-anticipated UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash later this season. Mbappe will be aiming for redemption in the competition after coming a game short of lifting the Champions League trophy last season.
Mbappe is reportedly obsessed with winning the tournament. So, if PSG falls to Barcelona once again in the Champions League knockout stage, this could push Mbappe to end his PSG career and head to Real Madrid on a blockbuster move over the upcoming summer transfer window. The report dropped a snippet that Mbappe is still eyeing a move to Real Madrid, so an early elimination in the tournament could be the tipping point for the French forward.
Nonetheless, Real Madrid has been prepping for making an advantageous approach at signing Mbappe. The report notes that the club has been as of late orchestrating a plan that would put the club in a strong financial position to push for such a deal. The La Liga side would want to unveil the re-opening of the Santiago Bernabéu with the grand signing of the PSG star.
If this all transpires, it may create a domino effect in world football. If Mbappe does push for a move to Real Madrid, then PSG may turn to sign FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Another report from AS earlier this month noted that PSG may have to choose between Mbappe or Messi in 2021 due to financial complications. So if Mbappe would be out of the picture, it would open the door for PSG to go all in to sign Messi next year, who will become a free agent.
