Arsenal are said to be in the market for a new midfielder, with Atalanta’s Ederson on their radar.

Mikel Arteta already has a powerhouse midfield unit at Arsenal, with Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Thomas Partey competing for the number six and left-sided number eight roles.

However, the Spaniard clearly thinks there is room for improvement, as hard as that will undoubtedly be to achieve.

Ederson has been in fine form out in Italy with Atalanta this season, and he played a key role in their Europa League-winning campaign last term.

Arsenal are already said to be in the market for a centre-forward, with Victor Osimhen on their transfer radar.

It seems like the Gunners are looking to bolster in other areas of the pitch as well though. That said, one of their main transfer targets will not come cheap…

Eye-watering fee Arsenal have been told to pay for Ederson

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (print edition December 6th, page 11), Arsenal have been told to pay £50 million for Ederson.

Described as ‘sensational’ by Eurosport, the 25-year-old midfielder has everything needed to succeed in the Premier League.

In 14 games for Atalanta so far this season, he has bagged two goals and one assist. During those appearances he has averaged one tackle and one interception per game, as well as an 87.7% pass completion rate.

There is no doubt that Ederson is an elite midfielder. He has tremendous energy and stamina levels, and he has the physical attributes required in English football.

However, for £50 million, the Arsenal fans would surely want a midfielder with more of an attacking output, and the Brazilian doesn’t offer that.

The Gunners are apparently not ready to meet Atalanta’s demands anyway, so a deal to bring the 25-year-old to The Emirates seemingly won’t be happening anytime soon.
